A person-oriented approach to maternal homework involvement during the transition to lower secondary school

This study examined patterns of mothers' homework involvement (n = 680 in Grade 6 and 665 7) changes them during 12-year-old Finnish adolescents' 848; 391 boys) transition to lower secondary school. Moreover, the extent which motivational behavior prior academic achievement predicted these was examined. The latent analyses identified four relatively stable maternal Grades 7: averagely involved, psychologically controlling intrusive, noninvolved, intrusive monitoring helping. higher task avoidance poorer adolescents showed, more likely their mothers were utilize a pattern, or an helping pattern. Overall, results suggest that some may benefit from understanding how best support struggling task-avoidant primary • Four discovered. Maternal across educational transition. High poor patterns.
